PROTECTING STAFF AGAINST VIOLENCE AND AGGRESSION IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT

In today's increasingly violent society more and more people have suffered from being assaulted just for doing their job. Unfortunately, it is the more caring professions - teachers, nurses and social workers - where the increase is greatest.

It is no defence to say that 'that conflict comes with the territory'.

Regulations and The Law exist to ensure employers create a safe place of work and to protect their staff against aggression and violence.

Employers must be aware of 4 sets of provisions:

  1. Health & Safety Regulations
  2. Human Rights Legislation
  3. Protection Against Harassment - EU Directives
  4. Assault and the Use of Reasonable Force

Write policy and procedures to take account of the law and regulations. Have them checked by your legal advisers and where necessary the local police.

Wise Training does not give legal advice. If you require extra information on the four sets of provisions please tell us here
